Dogs in Yellow Day

Dogs in Yellow

Dogs in Yellow โ€“ National Dogs in Yellow Day - 20th March ๐ŸŸก

Have you ever seen a dog wearing yellow and wondered what it means? Itโ€™s a simple but important message: this dog needs space.

On 20th March, we celebrate National Dogs in Yellow Day โ€“ a day dedicated to raising awareness about anxious dogs and promoting yellow as the colour that signals a dog needs space.

This fantastic initiative was started by Sarah Jones from My Anxious Dog. Sarahโ€™s own dog, Bella, developed a fear of other dogs after being attacked as a puppy. Seeing how misunderstood anxious dogs can be, Sarah wanted to create a way for people to recognise and respect dogs that need extra space โ€“ and so, #DogsInYellow was born.

Why Might a Dog Wear Yellow?

A dog in yellow might:
๐Ÿ”ธ Be anxious or fearful
๐Ÿ”ธ Be in training
๐Ÿ”ธ Be recovering from illness, injury, or surgery
๐Ÿ”ธ Be elderly or in pain
๐Ÿ”ธ Have had a traumatic experience
๐Ÿ”ธ Simply prefer space from unfamiliar dogs and people

For these dogs, unexpected approaches from people or other dogs can feel overwhelming. The yellow gear acts as a gentle, visible signal to give them space and let them feel safe.

Why Yellow?

Yellow is bright, easily visible, and widely recognised as a cautionary colour. Just like road signs or hazard markers, it helps people notice and understand a dogโ€™s needs from a distance. Plus, it symbolises the love and dedication of those who support their anxious dogs every day.

If your dog wears yellow, letโ€™s get the message out there! Share a photo of your dog in yellow, use the hashtag #DogsInYellow, and help spread awareness. The more people who understand what yellow means, the better we can support anxious dogs everywhere.

Sarah from Barkshire Dog Training and I recently chatted about this on a Facebook Live, and weโ€™ve also spoken with Sarah Jones from My Anxious Dog about this important campaign. Iโ€™ll add the link so you can catch up on our conversation. We had a few technical issues at the start so feel free to skip the first 2 minutes but then we go on to have a great conversation. https://fb.watch/yjGT-T6Gto/

Together, we can make the world a more understanding place for dogs who need space. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ
