Our Mission at Insight Hounds
To change the world for sighthounds, one dog at a time.
The starting point for everything we do is simple: we look at training through a sighthound lens.
We then look at your individual dog.
Sighthounds
When you share your life with a sighthound, you realise how often they are misunderstood.
Chances are, at some point, you have had one of those myth-busting conversations. The classic:
“Don’t they need loads of exercise?”
When in reality, many sighthounds spend a significant amount of time sleeping, snoozing and lounging.
They can be mislabelled, but when you really get to know sighthounds, you see something very different.
Smart dogs. Really smart dogs.
Thinking dogs.
Sensitive dogs.
Subtle dogs.
Clever dogs.
Dogs who read movement and notice things we may not have spotted yet.
One of the challenges, and one of the joys, of sighthounds is that they are independent thinkers. They were bred to notice, think quickly, and make decisions.
Sometimes they put two and two together and arrive somewhere unexpected.
That is where understanding them makes all the difference.
New Chapter
For many sighthounds, pet life and home life are a new chapter.
Sometimes, they are a completely new world. Many adopted sighthounds have had a life before joining us.
They may have had a different role, a different routine, and a very different world.
Some greyhounds have had racing lives.
Some galgos, lurchers, salukis and other sighthounds may have had working, hunting or coursing backgrounds.
Some arrive with histories we know very little about.
Their story started before us, and we are now part of this next chapter for them. And this chapter can be really special.
That is why sighthound-specific training matters.
Training needs to consider more than the cue we are teaching.
We need to think about the dog in front of us, what they have experienced, how they see the world, how they communicate, and what helps them to learn.
Sighthound Specific Training
General training advice can be helpful, but it does not always take sighthounds and their backgrounds into account.
A sit cue is a good example.
Sit is treated as one of the basics.
For some sighthounds, that is no problem at all. But for many ex-racing greyhounds, it is not what they do.
That does not mean they are being awkward. It means we need to look at them through a sighthound lens.
Their body language can be subtle too.
A tiny head turn
A pause
A weight shift,
A lean in
A change in their eyes
Or a little tell that seems out of context can all be part of what they are trying to say.
Sighthounds often shout in whispers.
Once you know what to look for and start noticing those little signals, so much starts to make sense.
At Insight Hounds, we work with you and your dog to make this pet life chapter the best it can be.
That might mean building confidence, learning sighthound skills, helping them feel safe enough to settle, understanding their body language, supporting them out in the world, or giving them the choices and clarity they deserve.
Insight Hounds training is about so much more than the obedience cues It starts with the sighthound lens, understanding the dog in front of us, and building skills that help you work together as a team.
