This series of mini workshops with Sam Courtnell, Canine Massage Therapist, gives you an overview of how to massage your dog at home, and why. You will also learn a lot more about recognising signs of pain so you can take action early to help your dog. You can do just one, two or all three. After each one you will have and deeper understanding of what’s going on under your dog’s skin and how to spend some quality time with them which will benefit you both.

As well as the workshop you have the opportunity for a Sam to do a muscular health check of your dog to assess for any areas of discomfort or injury.

🐾 Workshop 1 🐾

• Why massage?

• Common injuries

• How to spot the signs of muscular pain and steps to take to help avoid injuries

• How to sit comfortably with your dog

• Effleurage – the foundation stroke of all massage

🐾 Workshop 2 🐾

• Recap effleurage and passive touch

• Bones and muscles of the neck, forelimb and thorax – find them on your dog and signs if they are dysfunctional

• New techniques - fan and compressions

• Passive range of movement forelimb

🐾 Workshop 3 🐾

• Recap of effleurage, fan and compressions

• Bones and muscles of the lumbar area, hindlimb and spine – find them on your dog and signs if they are dysfunctional

• Occiptial circles and bridge

• Passive range of movement hindlimb

• Linking it all together into routine

There is no commitment to do the next workshop and you don’t have to do all the workshops to benefit, just 1 will give you hands on techniques you can use to benefit your dog. You do have to do them in order because each one builds on the knowledge of the one before it.

Sam Courtnell is a Clinical Canine Massage Therapist and member of the Canine Massage Guild. She specialises in treating soft tissue and muscular injuries using a range of massage disciplines, tailoring each session to the needs and preferences of the individual dog. She also runs workshops to teach people how to use massage at home with their dogs and is a tutor on the course training new therapists.

Massage is very good for pain management, offering support for common orthopaedic conditions such as arthritis as well as muscular injuries and stiffness.
